Netting is needed in an industrial setting for a variety of reasons; it can act as a temporary guardrail around open manholes and other such entrances in the ground, around construction equipment that is left on a site, or put up around shelving in a warehouse to protect against falling boxes and similar materials. There are many types of industrial netting from which to choose, so once you've determined any local safety regulations you must follow for the netting you use in different circumstances, note a few other tips for ensuring you get the right type that's needed for your business.

Fire retardant

For a temporary barricade on a construction site or around a manhole cover, you may not be concerned with a net that is a fire retardant, as there may be very little risk of fire in that location. However, for a warehouse facility, even if you don't think there is a risk of fire, getting a net that works as a fire retardant can mean protecting your items that are stacked on shelves in case of a fire. Consider the cost of replacing all your stored goods and how quickly a fire would spread if it were to go through a standard net and then get to an area with a lot of wood pallets, cardboard boxes, and other such flammable materials. Always note the fire retardant properties of a net for a warehouse or enclosed facility and opt for something that will offer this added protection to your goods.

Visibility

The smaller the mesh, the less visibility a net will offer. If you're constructing a temporary fence around a construction area, you may want little visibility so that potential thieves do not see what's inside and get tempted to try to steal tools, equipment, and other items. However, for a net around your items stacked on shelves, you may want to be able to easily see through the net and to your inventory on the other side and need more visibility for these nets.

Check for base plate installation

Base plate installation at the bottom of the net means that a portion is folded inward and then attached right to the flooring with these base plates. This offers what is called a toe board protection, meaning that items cannot slide out underneath the net. For putting netting up on high shelves, as temporary barriers around the upper levels of new construction, and if the wind might kick up the net and make it somewhat useless, opt for this base plate installation.
