The interior walls are pretty much a critical component of the home. The wall lining provides privacy, acts as a sound barrier, can offer insulation, and may also serve as a fire deterrent component. Plasterboards are a common material used for interior wall lining of many homes. Plasterboards are basically made from a layer of gypsum that has been sandwiched by two outer layers of lining paper of various densities. The gypsum can be infused with several materials to provide varying qualities in the plasterboards. Basic plasterboard

Almost all plasterboard suppliers stock this plasterboard. It is used to line various areas in the home such as dry wall lining, ceilings, and even for stud partitioning. This type ranges in pre-cut sizes but is basically the same in component make-up; it is simply a gypsum layer sandwiched between two lining papers.

Damp-proof board

Plasterboard is not a favorable material for use in damp areas due to the rate at which it absorbs water.  These include areas such as the kitchen and homes built in damp areas. If you, however, need to use plasterboard in some of these areas, this would be the best type of board to use.

Damp-proof plaster board incorporates a membrane on one of the surfaces, usually the rear surface, that acts as a water barrier. The membrane is usually a colored silver foil layer.

Moisture resistant board

Unlike the damp-proof boards, moisture resistant plasterboard incorporates gypsum that is actually moisture resistant and not a barrier layer. This is the best type of plasterboard to use in areas such as the bathroom and the kitchen where the boards are likely to come in contact with water routinely. When consulting with plasterboard suppliers, ask specifically for such boards if you intend to use plasterboards in these areas.

Insulated board

As the name suggests, insulated boards provide insulation to prevent heat loss. The boards incorporate a layer of insulating foam usually coated on the back side. Insulated boards are a good way to partner with other features in your home when trying to mitigate thermal heat loss.

Other types of plasterboards include fire resistant and sound resistant boards. When contacting plasterboard suppliers, ensure that you specify the exact type of board based on your home designs. Remember, it may take more than simply the basic plasterboard to achieve several effects from your walls.
